Position: Director of Engineering

Report: Sr VP of Operations

Work Location: Johnson City, Kansas City, Chicago, Remote

 

Unitas Global is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Director of Engineering – Operations position. The Director of Engineering will provide oversight and accountability for the architecture and manage a team of Systems and Network engineers for the deployment and support of Enterprise Private Cloud and Public Cloud. The Director will also provide top tier support to the engineering team, and will require some hands-on capabilities.

 

The Director is a senior leader on the information technology team. This role has cross functional responsibilities, managing internal and external teams to make sure our information technology infrastructure is fully operational, efficient, and effectively delivering enhanced value to the business.

 

The Director is in charge of setting up the IT guidelines in structural management for the entire IT infrastructure, which involves computers, peripheral devices, telecommunications, servers, Internet, and all data centers.

 

Primary Objectives:

· Ensure that IT vision is synchronized with company business directives

· Be primary decision maker to ensure that company technology standards can support technical requirements for optimal workforce productivity

· Lead team of IT decision makers responsible for building business unit IT framework, policy, and safeguards

· Architect IT environments for clients for deployment into new and existing infrastructure

 

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide top tier support for troubleshooting hardware, software, OS maintenance, ongoing system configuration changes and multiple environment IaaS deployments

• Confidence around modern technology including servers, virtualization strategies, and storage

• Responsible for training and guiding other engineers and ops team members in areas of expertise

• Manage the engineering group and the tickets provided to insure timely and quality updates

• Take proactive and reactive actions to correct client and infrastructure issues

• Onboard new customers following documented processes

• Follow standards, policies, and procedures for meeting service SLAs through the interaction with internal and external stakeholders of the system

• Coordinate maintenance with other internal and external stakeholders and follow established change control procedures

• Identify performance issues and recommend/implement corrections, identify alarm correlations, and take appropriate response actions

• Maintain system and customer configuration documentation

• Perform other duties as required by manager

• Focused on the outcome for the team and the company

• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation periodically • Communicating with management, service desk team, and other IT groups when issues arise or a major problem is suspected

• Contribute to written proposals and technical documentation

• Assist with training Service Desk and NOC in completing repeatable tasks through on-hands and documented processes and procedures

• Plan, consult, and provide critical data to management, clients, and peers regarding health of the environment, enhancements, innovations, and solutions

• Following ITIL processes for optimal management, ongoing support, and the exceeding of customer expectations

 

Minimum Qualifications:

· A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another related discipline is required

· Extensive Information Technology knowledge is required: 10+ years’ experience with companies that have successfully used IT as a business lever in driving optimization and change

· Must have leadership skills, demonstrating the importance of good decision making and strategic discipline through example

· Strong written and verbal communication, along with the ability to communicate internally and externally with all levels of an organization

· Must have prior experience in reorganization and transformation, including talent assessment and staff rationalization

· Prior experience leading technical or business project teams

· Well versed in PMI and ITIL processes and concepts

· Able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally

· Able to walk long distances

· Able to travel via plane, train, auto, on short notice
